  • John's tastes in food amazes me sometimes.  While he loves the typical toddler dishes such as hot dogs, dino shaped chicken nuggets (dinos) and smiley shaped tater tots (monkeys), he doesn't like mashed potatoes or mac and cheese (but we've just introduced mac & cheese).  Today I found mushrooms from a local farm in Manna Grocery.  I thought they would be great with orzo and pesto.  They were.  I didn't think John would be interested in trying it at all b/c he has never seen pasta with pesto sauce.  Instead, while I was cooking it, he whined and reached up at the stove (something he does when I am cooking oatmeal or pizza sphaghetti).  He sniffed the finished dish excitedly, gobbled it up, and gobbled it down with iced mint tea.  I never know which things I cook that he will like.  He didn't want the oven fried chicken, but that might have been b/c he has been eating lots of dinos lately.  He ate Canadian bacon instead.  I was going to make a recipe with Canadian bacon and orzo for him anyway.  As snacks, he elected to eat a Kind Bar (these are expensive but so amazing), a couple of squares of Green and Black's Organic chocolate, and an apple.  We do have chips and such in the house.  He wants the healthy stuff.  I hope this continues as he gets older.

I am going to look on-line to see if the mushroom farm has other kinds of mushrooms.  While the mushrooms were good, they didn't have much flavor.  I am beginning to see why some people are choosy about where mushrooms come from.  I am going to say that it must be the kind of mushroom before I say that it's the mushroom farm.  regardless, I'll be buying my mushrooms from this farm. I have been trying to buy more local stuff when I can afford it.  Since the mushrooms cost the same as other mushrooms, It's worth it.

that's awesome!! my parents raised me to eat whatever they were eating, so i loved artichokes at age 3 :) whenever i have kids, i'm going to do the same thing....raise them to like healthy food and not to only eat chicken nuggets and fries like so many little ones do. glad i have a model to watch for how to do this!!

My son hates everything... he likes yogurt, granola bars, cheez-its and that's pretty much it. Oh, he loves calimari though. That kid can eat an entire plate of it. I don't understand why...it seems like it'd be soo disgusting...(then again, I'm a vegetarian so I guess I'd feel that way). He doesn't like typical toddler foods like ice cream, mac and cheese, spagehtii, pizza, nothing... so weird.

Renee hated everything when she was that age. She'd only want pasta (plain with a little butter) tomatos and that gross sauce from spaghetti-o's.  Now her taste buds have really changed!

I want to make oven friend chicken!  My grandma and mom used to make it and I miss it so much!

Oh, I love mushrooms. And buying local.

And, wow, preg? You might be preg? Wow. Yay for John! I'm sure he'd love a little sibling.

Or maybe you're not pregnant, and that digital test was right. I'm sure John would love being an only child, too.

Thanks for the suggestion about the tunny fibers. I mentioned it to my husband, and we're going to order some. I'll let you know if it works for him. I really appreciate the advice!
